Top Tips for Trouble-free Travel...

Getting away is something that many of us are in desperate need of this summer. Whether it's a staycation or travelling further afield, we have some top tips for travelling with your treasured jewellery this summer...

1) PLAN & PAIR; plan your outfits and pair with a minimum amount of jewellery...

This is actually probably the more time-consuming tip, but also the most creative! Try not to take too much jewellery with you when you go away. This reduces the risk of jewellery being lost in transfer, and believe us, it happens. Avoid that horrible stomach churning feeling by only taking a few key, versatile pieces with you. Look at the clothes you are taking and then pull together a look with your jewellery that works for most outfits. Gold earrings are always a good idea, especially with the warm tones this summer. One statement ring works well with evening outfits and a chain and pendant to dress up or down by using just the chain, or adding the pendant for a dinner.

2) TRAVEL IN COMFORT; choose a safe, cushioned jewellery box to transport your jewellery...

How many times have you flung your jewellery in your wash bag last minute, and then had to fish it out and untangle it at your final destination?! Using a stylish jewellery box makes the act of choosing your jewellery and then taking care of it much more of a mindful act. It also keeps your pieces secure and safe in transit. You'll also be much more aware of where your pieces are when moving from place to place as they will be more visible in a jewellery travel box.

3) PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE; take a photo of yourself wearing all the jewellery you have with you when you arrive at your destination...

Perhaps the least comfortable of the tips but one of the most important. Once you have arrived at your destination, put all your earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. on your person and then have someone take a photo of you (or self timer/selfie). This ensures that you have 'evidence' of all the pieces that you took with you. This can be helpful for insurance purposes. Which brings us smoothly on to top tip number 4...

4) INSURANCE POLICY CHECK; before you travel, check your travel insurance policy for cover limits...

If you are going to take any jewellery with you on holiday (which let's face it, why wouldn't you?!) then check your travel insurance in terms of cover limits for personal possessions. This can be helpful to know whether or not you are covered for certain pieces.

5) TAKE A SPARE TOOTHBRUSH; take an old toothbrush to clean any jewellery for that extra sparkle...

Take a toothbrush for your jewellery. Yes, a toothbrush!! All you need to get that extra glisten for an evening meal or drink by a pool is a toothbrush, warm soapy water and a gentle hand. Get rid of any suncream, sand, soil from your ring-setting by gently using the bristles to dislodge any dirt. Rinse away and take a look; you'll be amazed at how much more alive that diamond ring looks. NB: be careful with softer stones and don't get any pearl jewellery wet− it's usually set with glue and could mean disaster!

Travel safe this summer and happy holidays, be it in your back garden or somewhere more exotic!!
