How our resizing service works
1. INITIAL ASSESSMENT
Share a few details (metal, gemstones, current size, desired size). Photos help, especially of the setting and any engraving.
2. EXPERT RECOMMENDATION & ESTIMATE
We’ll confirm what’s possible, explain any risks or alternatives, and provide a cost estimate and expected timeframe.
3.WORKSHOP CRAFTSMANSHIP
Resizing is carried out by skilled goldsmiths using traditional techniques appropriate to the age and construction of your ring.
4.QUALITY AND CHECKS
We inspect settings, tighten claws if needed, clean/polish, and return the ring ready to wear.

Factors that affect resizing
METAL AND CONSTRUCTION:
Platinum, gold (yellow/white/rose), and silver each require different approaches.
GEMSTONES & SETTINGS:
Heat-sensitive stones (e.g., opal, emerald) and full eternity bands may limit how far a ring can be sized.
Amount of size change: Small adjustments are usually straightforward; larger changes may require additional work or alternatives.
ENGRAVING & PATTERNS:
We can often preserve or sympathetically re-engrave as part of the work.
Not sure of your ring size?
USE A RING YOU ALREADY OWN: Measure the inside diameter of a comfortable ring (in millimetres).
CONSIDER BAND WIDTH: Wider bands often feel tighter—many people go up a quarter to half size.
FINGER FIT TIPS: The ring should slide over the knuckle with a gentle twist and sit snugly without pinching.
Care with antique rings
Antique and vintage pieces often feature closed-back settings, old-cut stones, and hand-engraved details. We use period-appropriate methods, protect heat-sensitive stones, and prioritise the integrity of the original craftsmanship. If a traditional resize risks the piece, we’ll suggest alternatives (sizing beads, a guard, or a custom liner).
Frequently asked questions
CAN EVERY RING BE RESIZED?
Not always. Full eternity bands and heavily patterned shanks may have limits. We’ll assess and advise on the safest approach.
WILL RESIZING LEAVE A MARK?
Properly finished work should be virtually invisible. On heavily patterned or engraved bands, we’ll discuss restoration options.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Turnaround depends on the work required and workshop schedule. We’ll confirm your timeframe with the estimate.
DO YOU CLEAN AND CHECK STONES?
Yes. We inspect settings and give the ring a professional clean and polish before returning it.
WHAT IF THE RING SPINS?
We can add sizing beads or a comfort-fit liner to help stabilise top-heavy rings.
