Cameo Jewellery

Cameo is a method of carving that creates a positive relief. In the case of jewellery it is usually set in a carnelian shell or sardonyx shell, but can also be set in mother of pearl or agate.

They often display a women's profile and became popular in the Victorian era thanks to the Queen. Cameos have actually been around since 300BC and were often worn by Greeks and Romans.
