We Are Moving

You may have already seen the news in the local press, but we wanted you, our customers, to hear it directly from us.

After years of envisioning and five steady years of negotiation, we’re pleased to share that Banwells is moving… to one of Sidmouth’s most treasured historic buildings; County House on New Street.

A jeweller’s home since 1902, County House is a place we’ve admired for a long time. When the opportunity presented itself, we felt it was the natural move. The journey here hasn’t been straightforward; complex probate, the challenges of Covid, and moments when it all felt uncertain. In spite of these challenges we always believed this building was worth the wait.

Now, the careful restoration begins. Over the next five months, County House will be thoughtfully refurbished. Its elegant black-and-gold frontage will be restored, the marble floors and curved glass reinstated, and even its original cabinets, brought back from London, will return to their place.

This move is more than a change of address. It’s an opportunity to re-invent the way British independent business can be done alongside a renewal of Banwells’ retail space. We believe in a space that advocates for you to slow down, to take your time and to feel connected to the process.

We’ll be sharing updates as the work unfolds, and when the time comes, we’ll be delighted to welcome you into County House to see the transformation for yourselves.
